Pet Transport to the Airport from Castellón

Setting off on a trip from Castellón with your pet gets complicated as soon as you think about how to reach the terminal. Renfe only takes dogs of up to 40 kg, on selected trains, the intercity bus doesn't take them, and an ordinary taxi may refuse or have no room for a large carrier. Hatchi takes care of exactly that part of the journey: we pick up your pet (and you) at your front door and drop you at the terminal, by road, in a van reserved for your family alone.

From Castellón, the terminal is usually Valencia's

Castellón airport (code CDT) is in the municipality of Vilanova d'Alcolea, about 35 km from the city, and its commercial activity is very limited. That's why almost every customer who writes to us from the province actually leaves from Valencia airport, in Manises, about 80 km from Castelló de la Plana.

We do both trips. Tell us which terminal you're leaving from and we'll plan the pickup accordingly: for Manises we allow for the AP-7; for CDT, for the CV-10 and the N-340.

80 km on the AP-7: how long it really takes

From Castelló de la Plana to Valencia airport it's about 80 km, which take 50 to 60 minutes on the AP-7 in normal traffic. On top of that, add the time you need at the terminal before departure.

When you book, we tell you what time we'll be at your door so you arrive with a comfortable margin. We'd rather leave early and wait calmly than arrive with no time to spare and a nervous pet in its carrier.

Why public transport doesn't work with a pet

• Train: Renfe only takes dogs of up to 40 kg, on selected trains and with conditions. And there's no direct train from Castellón to the terminal.
• Intercity bus: the Castellón–Valencia lines don't usually accept pets, except assistance dogs.
• Valencia metro and tram: they do reach the airport, but first you'd have to get to Valencia with your pet, and their rules limit the size of the carrier at peak times.
• Ordinary taxi: it depends on the driver agreeing, and the boot rarely fits a large carrier plus the luggage.

What to have ready

The exact requirements depend on the destination and the company you're travelling with, so check them with your vet and with the company well before the date.

• EU pet passport, with the rabies vaccination up to date.
• Identification microchip.
• A recent vet certificate if your destination requires one.
• A carrier of the right size, with its identification label on.
• Lead, water and a little food for the wait at the terminal.
